What Happens to Your Wastes we Collect? | Print |

ImageAll of the skip wastes we collect are taken to our local fully licensed recycling centre near Oakham in  Rutland .  Here we segregate and process your wastes by manual and mechanical methods to recycle as much as possible.  Our recycling rate currently stands at 87%.  Our aim is to send zero wastes to landfill by April 2012.

WHY RECYCLE YOUR WASTES?

Landfill is not a long term solution! The amount of waste we are producing each year is increasing.  By continuing to rely on landfill we are taking up valuable space in our countryside, creating more pollution and contributing to climate change because of the greenhouse gases emitted from landfill sites.  Another reason to reduce our reliance on landfill is the financial burden which we could be facing if we fail to find an alternative.

Landfill is not a long-term solution to our waste problems.

Recycling is the solution! Many of the materials we throw into landfills have a value and can be used again.  Most wastes are made from products that are slowly running out or cannot be replaced quickly enough because of the amount we consume.  Recycling materials reduces the need to dig up or mine new raw materials and minimises landfill wastes which often damages the surrounding environment.  Making new goods out of recycled materials also saves energy.

   The benefits of recycling:

Conserves natural resources

Reduces the need for landfill and incineration

Prevents emissions of many greenhouses gases and water pollutants

Saves energy

Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources and generates a host of environmental, financial and social benefits.
